G. Sateesh Reddy wins National Design Award      
 
G. Satheesh Reddy, Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister and Director General, Missiles and Strategic Systems, has been conferred with the prestigious National Design Award. He has bagged this award for his significant national contribution towards indigenous design and development of diversified missile systems, guided weapons, avionics technologies and for his sustained efforts leading to the advancement of aerospace technologies and industries in India.           
National Design Research Forum (NDRF) established by the Institution of Engineers (India), promotes research, design, development, production, and innovation through collaborative effort since 1969.

Mo Farah wins BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award 2017

World 10,000m champion Sir Mo Farah has been voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2017. The 34-year-old, a four-time Olympic champion, won his third successive world 10,000m gold medal in London in August. He becomes the first long-distance runner to win the Sports Personality award since Paula Radcliffe in 2002.

Real Madrid earns official FIFA World Champions Badge 

Real Madrid has earned the honor of being able to wear the official FIFA World Champions Badge on their competition jerseys for the duration of 2018 by defeating Gremio in the final of the FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2017. Real Madrid will be able to display the emblem all the way up to the next FIFA Club World Cup, which will take place in the United Arab Emirates in December 2018. Real Madrid had won FIFA World Champions Badges in 2014, 2016, and 2017. The first team to ever receive the FIFA World Champions Badge was the Italy men’s national team for their victory at the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

UNESCO and Samsung enter into tie-up for production of videos on Indian Heritage Sites           

Samsung India has entered into a partnership with UNESCO to launch virtual reality content and 360-degree videos on Indian heritage sites. Indian heritage sites include the Sun Temple in Konark, Odisha and Taj Mahal in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. The project will provide experiential educational content to students across the country. There are 36 UNESCO heritage sites in India at present.

RBI imposes Rs. 5 Cr penalty on Syndicate Bank    

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a penalty of Rs 5 crore on Syndicate Bank for non-compliance with its directions on "Cheque Purchase or Discounting, Bill Discounting, and Know Your Customer (KYC)" norms. According to the RBI, the penalty was imposed after "considering the bank's reply and oral submissions made in the personal hearing".

Andhra Pradesh becomes the third state to sanction pension for Transgenders 

The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet approved a scheme to provide a pension of Rs 1500 to transgenders above 18 years of age in the state. Under this scheme, the transgenders will be provided ration cards, plots, and scholarships, also skill development for financial stability. After Kerala and Odisha, Andhra Pradesh becomes the next state to sanction pension scheme for the transgender community.

Sushil Kumar and Sakshi Malik win gold medals in Commonwealth Wrestling Championships

On 17th December 2017, double Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar clinched a gold medal at the Commonwealth Wrestling Championships in South Africa. In Johannesburg, returning to international wrestling after more than three years, Sushil defeated New Zealand Akash Khullar via a pinfall in the final of the 74kg freestyle category to clinch the yellow metal. It was his first medal in international wrestling since his gold medal in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. It was a double celebration for India as Parveen Rana also won a bronze medal in the same category.       
Another Olympic medalist, Sakshi Malik, who won a bronze in the 2016 Rio Games, also clinched a gold medal in the championships. Sakshi defeated New Zealand's Tayla Tuahine Ford by a score of 13-2 in the final of the 62kg women's freestyle category.

Australia Regains The Ashes after beating England in the third Test also       

Australia won back the Ashes 2017 after bowling England out cheaply despite rain delays and a pitch controversy to secure an innings win on the final day of the third Test in Perth on the 18th December 2017. Having confirmed his status as the world's best batsman with a match-winning double century, Steve Smith added victorious Ashes captain to his ever-expanding resume as England were dismissed for 218 in their second innings in the last Ashes Test to take place at the WACA Ground. That gave the home side an innings-and-41-run win and an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the five-match series, having won the opening two Tests in Brisbane and Adelaide.

International Herbal Fair inaugurated in Bhopal      

The seven day International Herbal Fair was inaugurated in Bhopal on 14th December 2017. Three hundred stalls with rare herbs from different parts of Madhya Pradesh are put up in the Fair, which is being attended by delegates from several countries. 
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister is Shivraj Singh Chouhan and the governor is Om Prakash Kohli.

Switzerland launches world’s steepest funicular railway  

On 17th December 2017, Switzerland launched the world’s steepest funicular railway to the Alpine resort town of Stoos. A funicular is a type of cable railway on an inclined plane of the cliff. The latest funicular railway in Switzerland rises 743 meters along gradients as steep as 110 % and with a track length of 1720 meters.  The cost of construction of the railway is about Rs 333 Cr. Switzerland Capital is Bern and Currency is Swiss franc.

Ravindra Jaiswal appointed India’s Ambassador to Sudan         

On 15th December 2017, Ravindra Jaiswal was appointed as the next Indian Ambassador to Sudan. He is an IFS Officer of the 1999 batch and is presently Deputy Chief of Mission, Berne. Sudan Capital is Khartoum and Currency is Sudanese pound.


Pradeep Kumar Gupta appointed India’s Ambassador to Mali     

On 15th December 2017, Pradeep Kumar Gupta was appointed as the next Indian Ambassador to the Republic of Mali. He is presently the Counsellor, High Commission of India in Accra. The Republic of Mali Capital is Bamako and Currency is West African CFA franc.
