National Child Awards 2017 presented 
          
President Ram Nath Kovind gave away the National Child Awards 2017 on the occasion of Children’s Day (14 November) in New Delhi. This year, the President honoured 16 children, out of which one child was given a gold medal and 15 children were given silver medals. Master Akash Manoj from Tamil Nadu was the only child winning gold for Innovation. The child with the most outstanding achievement is honoured with a cash prize of Rs.20,000/-, a certificate/citation and a Gold Medal.

Uttar Pradesh tops in new Jan Dhan Yojna mobilizations

Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) which was launched to further the financial inclusion process in the country have gathered momentum in some northern States post demonetisation. With its area and size of the population, Uttar Pradesh tops in opening new PMJDY accounts. One-fifth of the more than five crore new PMJDY accounts in the Indian banking system came from Uttar Pradesh alone. Bihar, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal cumulatively added another 2.2 crore new accounts in the last one year. PMJDY was launched in 2014.

Sujoy Ghosh resigns as Head of Jury of IIFI 

Filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh has resigned as Head of the jury of the Indian Panorama of the 48th International Film Festival of India (IFFI). His resignation came following the elimination of the two films "Sexy Durga" and "Nude" from the final list of films. Instead of Nude, the Hindi movie Pihu by Vinod Kapri was finalised as the opening film of the festival. The jury consisted of 13 members which were led by Sujoy Ghosh.

November 14th – World Diabetes Day

The World Diabetes Day (WDD) was observed globally on 14 November. The theme for 2017 WDD is 'Women and diabetes - Our right to a healthy future'. Currently, there are over 199 million women living with diabetes and this total is projected to increase to 313 million by 2040. Diabetes is the ninth leading cause of death in women globally, causing 2.1 million deaths each year. The World Diabetes Day 2017 theme aims to promote affordable access to the essential diabetes medicines and technologies for all women.

Mumbai to host Asian Bankers’ Association conference for the first time        

For the first time, the nation's financial capital- Mumbai will host the 34th annual conference of the Asian Bankers Association (ABA) on the 16th and 17th November 2017. The same is being hosted by State Bank of India. The two-day conference will be held with the theme 'Asia's turn to transform'. The event is expected to see the presence of over 160 domestic as well as international bankers. Asian Bankers Association (ABA) was founded in 1981.

Italy fails to qualify for FIFA World Cup for the first time in 59 years       


In Football, Italy has failed to qualify for the FIFA World Cup for the first time since 1958. The four-time champions failed to make the cut after they lost the World Cup Qualifying European play-off against Sweden, 0-1. Italy has now joined the Netherlands, US, Chile, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Cameroon in the list of big nations that have failed to qualify to the tournament which will be held in Russia in June 2018. FIFA World Cup 2018 will be held in Russia.

37th India International Trade Fair begins in New Delhi     

The 37th India International Trade Fair (IITF) has begun at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. The 14-day annual event has been organised by the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO). It was inaugurated by President Ram Nath Kovind. This year the theme of the fair is “Startup India Standup India”. Vietnam is the Partner Country, while Kyrgyzstan is the Focus Country. Jharkhand is participating as a Partner State in the event.

Kenneth Juster has sworn in as new US Ambassador to India           

Kenneth Juster has been sworn in as the US Ambassador to India. Vice President Mike Pence administered the oath of office to Juster on 13th Nov 2017 in Washington. The position has been lying vacant since January 20, 2017, after Richard Verma resigned from the post after the swearing in of Donald Trump as the 45th President of the US.

November 13th – World Kindness Day           

The 13th of November is celebrated around the world as World Kindness Day. It was introduced in 1958 by World Kindness Movement, an international alliance of kindness NGOs. The purpose of World Kindness Day is to appreciate the good and kind deeds in society by different sections of the people. The mission is to inspire a kinder world amongst us.

Rafael Nadal presented with World No 1 trophy      

On 12th November 2017, in the O2 Arena in London, Spanish legend Rafael Nadal was presented with the World No. 1 trophy in tennis.  He had ousted Andy Murray of Great Britain as the World’s No. 1 player in August 2017. This is his fourth No. 1 title, having earned it earlier in 2008, 2010 and 2013. At 31 years, he is the oldest player to finish the year as No. 1.

Banglar Rasogolla, Mamallapuram stone sculptures get GI tag  

The Geographical Indication (GI) Registry and Intellectual Property India on 14th November 2017 presented the Geographical Indication Tag status to Banglar Rasogolla of West Bengal and Mamallapuram stone sculptures of Tamil Nadu. The GI tag conveys an assurance of quality and distinctiveness which is essentially attributable to the fact of its origin in a defined geographical locality, region or country. India, as a member of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), enacted the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration & Protection) Act, 1999 that came into force from September 15, 2003.
