PM Modi Inaugurates Largest-Ever Global Conference on Cyber Space          

On November 23, 2017, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 5th Global Conference on Cyber Space (GCCS) in New Delhi. India is hosting the Global Conference on Cyber Space (GCCS) for the first time. This two-day event is one of the world’s largest conferences in the field of Cyber Space and related issues. Inaugurating fifth global conference on cyberspace, Mr. Modi said, digital technology has emerged as a great enabler and helping business for the growth of the economy.
The theme of the 5th GCCS was ‘Cyber4All: A Secure and Inclusive Cyberspace for Sustainable Development’.

PM Modi launches e-governance app Umang          

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a unified app to serve e-governance through mobile devices called Umang (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance), the app is developed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and National e-Governance Division (NeGD) to offer services of the central, state, local bodies, and various government agencies right on Android and iOS-based mobile devices. The new offering had emerged on the sidelines of the fifth Global Conference on Cyberspace (GCCS) in New Delhi.          
The Umang app bundles a list of Digital India services, including Aadhaar, DigiLocker, and PayGov. Additionally, the app provides citizens with all the major government services provided through app, web, SMS, and IVR channels.

WOMEN IN THE SKY: Indian Navy gets its first female pilot         

The first batch of female officers passed out from the Indian Naval Academy at Ezhimala on 22nd November 2017. Shubhangi Swaroop, a native of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, has become the first woman pilot in the Navy. She will soon be flying Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft. Three other women cadets, Astha Segal from New Delhi, Roopa A. from Puducherry and Sakthi Maya S. from Kerala, also became the country’s first women officers at NAI (Naval Armament Inspectorate), branch of the Navy.  
The Chief of the Naval Staff is Admiral Sunil Lanba.

Sri lankan PM Wikremesinghe visits to India 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. The Sri Lankan Prime Minister, who arrived in India on a four-day visit, will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi and will also call upon President Ram Nath Kovind. Earlier in the day, Wickremesinghe participated in the opening ceremony of the 5th Global Conference on Cyber Space (GSSC), which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi.

Cabinet approves India's membership for EBRD    

The Union Cabinet today approved India's membership for European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), a move which will help it obtain funding in various areas including services and manufacturing. The membership will increase the scope of cooperation between India and the multilateral institution through co-financing opportunities in manufacturing, services, information technology and energy.

Zimbabwe's former vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa to be sworn in as president    

Zimbabwe's former Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa will be sworn in as the President of the country today. Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda said that the ruling ZANU-PF party has nominated the 75-year old leader to fill the vacancy left by Mr. Robert Mugabe. Mr. Mugabe stepped down after 37 years ruling country.

IKEA opens first Hej Home in India at Hyderabad    

IKEA, the Swedish furnishing retailer, has opened its first experiential centre Ikea Hej (Hello) Home close to the IT hub of Hyderabad and their upcoming first store in the country. The Hej Home provides some insight into Ikea products and solutions which its future customers can actually buy when the store opens in India at Hyderabad early next year. The Hej Home, designed and set up over a six-month duration, highlights what the retailer stands for and what to expect from an IKEA store.

Cabinet introduces ‘Pradhan Mantri Mahila Shakti Kendra’          

On November 22, 2017, Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) gave approval for the expansion of schemes of the Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD) under the umbrella scheme “Mission for Protection and Empowerment for Women”.  The expansion has been approved for a period from 2017-18 to 2019-20 with financial outlay of 3636.85 crores. Central Share will be approximately Rs.3084.96 crores. Pradhan Mantri Mahila Shakti Kendra (PMMSK) scheme is envisioned as one-stop convergence support service for empowering rural women with opportunities for skill development, digital literacy, health and nutrition and employment.

Cabinet approves agreement between India and Philippines      

The Union Cabinet approved signing and ratifying of Agreement between India and Philippines on co-operation and mutual assistance in customs matters. The agreement will help in the availability of relevant information for prevention and investigation of Customs offences. The Agreement is also expected to facilitate trade and ensure efficient clearance of goods traded between countries. It will enter into force after necessary national legal requirements have been fulfilled by both countries.

Odisha to launch new irrigation scheme – Nabakrushna Choudhury Seccha Unnayan Yojana   

Odisha government today decided to launch a new scheme worth Rs. 635 crore to provide irrigation facility to about 55,000 hectares of agricultural land across the state. The scheme, “Nabakrushna Choudhury Seccha Unnayan Yojana”, has been named after former chief minister and freedom fighter Nabakrushna Choudhury. Under the scheme, 46,296-hectare command area of 14 major and medium irrigations and 284 minor irrigation projects will be revived.

Latin America is World’s most violent region for Women: United Nations        

Latin America and the Caribbean is the most violent region in the world for women, the United Nations unveiled on November 23, highlighting Central America and Mexico as particularly dangerous. In a report presented in Panama, UN Women and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) found assaults on women persisted in the region despite severe laws aimed at curbing the phenomenon. The report outlined that 24 of the 33 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean have laws against domestic violence, but only 9 of them have laws to punish other forms of violence against women in public or private.

UBI gets SEBI approval for Rs 1,000-cr equity issue via QIP        

State-owned lender United Bank of India has received market regulator SEBI's approval for issue of equity shares worth Rs. 1,000 crore by way of institutional placement. The Kolkata-headquartered bank had in January informed the bourses it planned to raise up to Rs 1,500 crore through qualified institutional placement (QIP), rights or public issue. UBI had earlier plans to rise up to Rs. 500 crore of Basel III-compliant listed additional tier-I debt instruments in the nature of bonds. UBI would seek approval for this amount from its board, which is scheduled to meet on December 6, 2017.

Conference of Commanders of Eastern Air Command commenced in Shillong        

A two-day conference of all Commanders of Eastern Air Command commenced at Shillong in Meghalaya, where issues pertaining to security are being discussed. Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal B S Dhanoa interacted with the Commanders and exhorted them to put in efforts to upgrade the operational infrastructure and capability of eastern zone. The conference was hosted by Air Marshal Anil Khosla, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Air Command.

India becomes second largest fish producing country in the world

On November 21, 2017 (on the occasion of ‘World Fisheries Day’), Union Agriculture Minister, Radha Mohan Singh stated that India has become the second largest fish producing country in the world. This year India celebrated ‘World Fisheries Day’ with the theme “2022 ka hai sapnaa…… kisaan ki aay ho duguna – Sankalp se siddhi”. Total fish production in India (including capture and culture) reached 11.41 million tonnes in 2016-17. Mr. Singh mentioned that ‘Blue Revolution’ scheme which was launched with the outlay of Rs. 300 crore for the integrated development of the Fisheries sector in India has resulted in overall increase in fish production by 18.86% as compared to last three years. China occupies the first place in largest fish producing country in the world.

Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe resigns, ending 37-year rule

On 21st November 2017, Robert Mugabe, who ruled Zimbabwe since independence in 1980 resigned as President, ending his 37-year rule. A letter from Robert Mugabe read out by the speaker of parliament said the decision was voluntary and he made it allow for a smooth transfer of power. Until his resignation, he was the world’s oldest leader. He had previously refused to quit despite recent military takeover and days of protests in Zimbabwe.

Cabinet approves setting up of 15th Finance Commission          

The Union cabinet has approved constitution of the Fifteenth Finance Commission that will decide the formula for sharing of taxes between the Centre and states for five years starting April 1, 2020. Article 280 of the Constitution requires setting up of a finance commission within two years from the commencement of this Constitution and thereafter at the expiration of every fifth year.

Facebook aims to train 5 lakh Indians on digital skills by 2020    

Social networking giant Facebook on 22nd November said it expects to train about five lakh people in India on digital skills by 2020 and has unveiled two programmes designed for individuals and start-ups. The two programmes - Facebook Digital Training and Facebook Startup Training Hubs - are being rolled out in India before any other country. Apart from these two, Facebook also runs offline training programmes as well as Blueprint (free online training for advertising on Facebook).

Telangana makes Telugu compulsory till Inter from next academic year         

Telugu would be implemented as a compulsory subject from the first standard to Intermediate, including in the CBSE and ICSE schools, from the next academic year. Deputy Chief Minister K. Srihari, who also holds Education portfolio, reviewed the steps to be taken before the commencement of the 2018-19 academic year in tune with the decision already taken by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. He directed the officials to complete necessary arrangements for the implementation of the decision well in advance.

India successfully test-fires BrahMos from Sukhoi-30 fighter aircraft    

The world's fastest supersonic cruise missile, BrahMos, was on 22nd November successfully flight-tested for the first time from the Indian Air Force's frontline fighter, Sukhoi-30MKI. The missile was tested against a sea-based target in the Bay of Bengal. The latest test of the multi-platform weapon completes the tactical cruise missile triad for India, as it is now capable of being launched from land, sea and air.
Brahmos, which is described as the world’s fastest supersonic cruise missile (travelling at speeds of Mach 2.8 to 3.0) has been jointly developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of India and NPO Mashinostroyenia (NPOM) of Russia.          
It has been named after Indian river Brahmaputra (Brah) and Russian river Moskova (Mos).

Trump, Putin Agree to Support UN in Syrian Peace Process       

USA President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin have agreed to support the U.N. effort to "peacefully resolve" the nearly seven-year-long Syrian civil war. They also discussed ways to implement a lasting peace in Ukraine," where pro-Russian separatists have been fighting troops loyal to Kyiv and how to keep international pressure on North Korea to end its nuclear weapon and missile development programs.

Paytm acquires stake in online loans firm CreditMate        

Paytm has bought an undisclosed stake in Urja Money Pvt. Ltd, which evaluates the creditworthiness of people seeking loans to buy two-wheelers. Paytm will use Urja’s proprietary CreditMate technology to create a loan management system in collaboration with lending partners. Mumbai-based Urja, incorporated in July 2016, has partnerships with banks and nonbanking entities on the supply side and auto-dealers on the demand side. The company raised $500,000 from India Quotient last November.

Hike partners Airtel Payments Bank to power its wallet     

Messaging and social technology company Hike on 22nd November partnered with Airtel Payments Bank to power its wallet. Through the alliance, Airtel Payments Bank will get access to over 100 million users on Hike and will begin powering the Hike wallet product. Hike Messenger, which is backed by SoftBank, registered 30 percent month-on-month growth for its wallet service. In wake of the new Know Your Customer (KYC) guidelines of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for mobile wallets, this tie-up will ensure that users of Hike Wallet have an uninterrupted service when the new guidelines come into force.

Andhra Bank launches scheme to push entrepreneurship          

Andhra Bank has launched a new scheme for self-help groups (SHGs) to encourage entrepreneurship. The scheme, Pattabhi Sitaramayya — Self Business Group (PS-SBG), has been introduced to commemorate the 138th birth anniversary of its founder Bhogaraju Pattabhi Sitaramayya, and the Silver Jubilee of the SHG-Bank linkage programme in the country. Under the scheme, SHGs having five years of association with Andhra Bank and having successfully completed three credit rotations with good repayment record and an aptitude for entrepreneurship will be eligible for a loan.

SSC CHSL Notification was out on 17th November and the registration process has begun. The online SSC CHSL application process will remain open until 18th December 2017. Though the application process is easy, many applications get rejected due to the simple steps overlooked by the candidate. In this post, a step-by-step guide is discussed to apply for the SSC CHSL Exam 2017.

How to Apply for the SSC CHSL 2017 Exam 

A candidate who is 10+2 pass can apply for the SSC CHSL 2017-18 exam. The SSC CHSL application will only be accepted online. There is no other mode of SSC CHSL form submission.

Step-By-Step Guide to Apply SSC CHSL 2017 Application Online 

1. Log in to the official SSC website www.ssconline.nic.in
2. Click on the “Click here to apply” option available on the website and select the CHSL option. 
3. Read the Instructions carefully before filling the online one-time registration form.
4. After reading the instructions, fill the online registration form. 
5. Check the details and proofread them before heading forward. 
6. Submit the Online registration form. 
7. After submitting the form, a registration Id and Password will be generated. Keep the ID and Password safely because this would be your permanent ID and password, which can be required to apply for this examination as well as for the other recruitment examination of the Commission. 
8. After submitting the form and noting down the registration ID and Password, you should upload your latest scanned photograph and signature. The photograph and signature must be uploaded in 'jpg' format. The digital size of the photograph must be more than 4 KB and less than 20 KB. The digital size of the signature must be more than 1 KB and less than 12 KB.
9. After completion of the Registration Part, proceed to fill up the Online Application Form. 
10. Candidates already registered can omit instructions given from S No-3 to 9 above and can directly log into the system using their "Registration ID" and "Password" and proceed to fill up the Application Form. 
11. In case, there is any discrepancy in ‘One-time Registration’ data filled by the candidate, photograph/signature, etc., ‘One-time Registration’ data may be suitably edited before proceeding to fill online application form. The Commission allows editing of information like name, father’s name, mother’s name, date of birth, gender and matriculation roll number only once after Registration. Therefore, these fields MUST BE ENTERED/ EDITED VERY CAREFULLY. Other fields in the ‘One-Time Registration’ can be edited once before every examination but prior to submission of Application for Examination. SUCH EDITING IS ALLOWED BEFORE SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION. ONCE THE APPLICATION HAS BEEN SUBMITTED, NO CHANGE IN ‘One-Time Registration’ and Application data will be allowed. 
12. You should read the instructions in the Notice carefully before filling up the Online Application Form. 
13. You should thoroughly check all the entries filled in the online application form, before final submission. In case of any discrepancy, the relevant entry may be corrected/ edited. After final submission of online application, no change in any particular shall be allowed.
14. Pay the application fee.
15. On successful fee payment, your application will be complete. You may take a printout of this application for your own record but you are not required to submit this printout to the Commission.


How to pay SSC CHSL 2017 Fees - 

After filling the online SSC CHSL application, the candidates are required to make fee payment (Candidates who are exempted from fee payment are not required to pay the fee).

Application fee can be paid through SBI Challan/ SBI Net Banking or by using Visa/ Mastercard/ Maestro Credit/ Debit card. The facility of submission of online application (including payment of fees through online method) will be available from 18.11.2017 to 18.12.2017 (5.00PM). However, candidates who wish to make the payment through challan of SBI may make the payment to designated branches of SBI within the working hours of bank up to 20.12.2017 provided the challan has been generated by them before 5.00 PM of 18.12.2017.

In this post, we have discussed varied eligibility criteria that are required to be fulfilled by the candidate before he/she applies for the SSC CHSL examination. 


SSC CHSL Eligibility Criteria 2017-2018: Nationality 

Nationality/ Citizenship:
 A candidate must be either:
(a) a citizen of India, or 
(b) a subject of Nepal, or 
(c) a subject of Bhutan, or 
(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or 
(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania(Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) above shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the Examination but the offer of appointment will be given only after, the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him/ her by the Government of India.

SSC CHSL Eligibility Criteria 2017-2018: Age Limit

An SSC CHSL applicant should be between 18 - 27 years as on 1.08.2018 i.e. a candidate should not be born before 2-08-1991 not later than 1-08-2000). 

However, there is a provision for the upper age relaxation for the reserved category.

SSC CHSL Notification 2017-18: Educational Qualification as on 1.08.2018

i. Must have passed 12th Standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University.

ii. For Data Entry Operator in the Office of Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG): 12th Standard pass in Science stream with Mathematics as a subject from a recognized Board or equivalent. 

As per Ministry of Human Resource Development Notification dated 10.06.1995 published in Gazette of India, all the degree/ diplomas/ certificates including technical education degree/ diploma awarded through Open and Distance Learning mode of education by the Universities established by an Act of Parliament or State Legislature, Institutions Deemed to be Universities under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act 1956 and Institutions of National Importance declared under an Act of Parliament stand automatically recognized for the purpose of employment to posts and services under the Central Government provided they have been approved by the Distance Education Bureau, University Grants Commission. 

Candidates who have not yet acquired but will acquire the educational qualification and produce documentary evidence from the Board/ University in support thereof as on 01.08.2018 will also be eligible for the SSC CHSL 2017 examination. 

All candidates who are called for appearing in the document verification will be required to produce the relevant Certificate in Original such as Mark sheets, Provisional Certificate, etc. as proof of having acquired the minimum educational qualification on or before 01.08.2018 failing which the candidature of such candidate will be canceled by the Commission. 
The candidates who are able to prove, by documentary evidence that the result of the qualifying examination was declared on or before the cutoff date i.e. 01.08.2018 and he/ she has been declared passed, will be considered to have the required Educational Qualification.

What are Phrasal Verbs? 


A phrasal verb is a combination of a verb + Preposition or a Verb + Adverb. When the two are used together, they usually take on a different meaning to the original verb. 

Different types of Phrasal Verbs For IBPS Exams 

There are 4 types of Phrasal Verbs: 

1. Transitive Phrasal Verb - Phrasal verbs which require an object in a sentence are called as transitive phrasal verbs. A sentence will not make any sense if it has a phrasal verb without an object. 

Example: Please switch on the light. 

2. Intransitive Phrasal Verb - Intransitive phrasal verbs are those verbs which don't require an object in a sentence. 

Example: A car broke down.  

3. Separable Phrasal Verb - Phrasal verbs which can be separated in a sentence. It's verb and preposition can be separated. Such a phrasal verb can be either used in joined or a separate form.  

Example: Please turn on the light. 

4. Inseparable Phrasal Verb - These are the phrasal verbs whose words cannot be separated for using it in different places in a sentence i.e. a verb and a preposition can be separated.

India and Russia have agreed to implement the general declaration for visa-free entry of the crew of chartered and scheduled flights between the two countries. The agreement will facilitate visa-free entry, stay and exit of the crew of aircraft of the designated airlines as well as other aircraft companies operating chartered and special flights in the respective territories on the reciprocal basis.

American singer Beyonce has been named the highest paid woman in music in 2017 by the Forbes. Her earnings, mainly from album Lemonade and Formation World Tour, have been estimated to be $105 million (Rs682 crore). Adele, with earnings of $69 million came second while Taylor Swift, with earnings of $44 million, was ranked third on the list.

World’s biggest toilet pot model unveiled in Haryana on World Toilet Day      

The world's biggest toilet pot model was unveiled at Marora, popularly known as the "Trump village", in Haryana on the World Toilet Day (19 November) in a bid to create awareness towards sanitation and use of toilets. A mega toilet pot measuring 20x10 feet was unveiled to inspire action to tackle the global sanitation crisis.


Veteran journalist Manik Banerjee wins award from Indian Mountaineering Foundation    

Veteran journalist Manik Banerjee, who is also an acclaimed mountaineer was presented with the 'Life Time Achievement Award' by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF). Banerjee has presented the award in recognition of his achievements in mountaineering over a period of four decades.


Nabaneeta Dev Sen Wins Big Little Book Award 2017         

Sahitya Akademi awardee Bengali writer Nabaneeta Dev Sen has been declared the winner of the Big Little Book Award for the year 2017 in the Author in Bengali Language category for her contribution to the children's literature. The award, given out by Parag initiative of Tata Trusts to recognise and honour authors and illustrators of children's literature, focused on the writers in the Bengali language in its second edition. Chennai-based illustrator Proiti Roy received the award in the illustrator category.

Indian origin South African appointed as UNAIDS Special Ambassador         

Acclaimed South African Indian-origin AIDS researcher Professor Quarraisha Abdool Karim has been appointed as a UNAIDS Special Ambassador for Adolescents and HIV. Professor Abdool Karim is one of the world's leading AIDS researchers and has made pioneering contributions to understanding the HIV epidemic among young people, especially among young women. In 2013, Professor Abdool Karim was awarded South Africa's highest honour, the Order of Mapungubwe, for her contribution to the response to HIV.

India’s Dalveer Bhandari reelected to the International Court of Justice          

India’s nominee to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) Dalveer Bhandari was re-elected to the fifth and the last seat of the world court after Britain withdrew its candidate from the election. Mr. Bhandari received 183-193 votes in the General Assembly and secured all the 15 votes in the Security Council after separate and simultaneous elections were held at the UN headquarters in New York.

The Day was established in 1954 and is celebrated on 20th November each year to promote international togetherness, awareness amongst children worldwide and improve the welfare of the children. The theme for the Universal Children’s Day 2017 is “It is a #Kids Take Over”.
