How To Select The Preferences For Banks While Applying Online For IBPS Clerk 2017 Exam

IBPS Notification is out and the registration for the 7883 vacancies is open for the posts of IBPS Clerk across the country. 


The vacancies for the IBPS Clerk are based state-wise and bank-wise. So before filling the application form, it is mandatory for you to have the complete information regarding the number of vacancies in the various states of the preferred bank.


Why is it mandatory to know about the vacancies state-wise and bank-wise?

The selection process of IBPS Clerk Exam has two phases – Prelims and Mains.

IBPS Clerk Prelims Examination: IBPS Clerk Prelims Exam is the qualifying examination. To qualify for the next level, which is the IBPS Clerk Main Exam, a candidate has to cross the sectional and as well as the overall cutoff of the IBPS Clerk Exam. The marks obtained in the IBPS Clerk Prelims exam will not be considered for the final merit list.

IBPS Clerk Main Examination: This is the last phase for the IBPS Clerk Exam. The selection of a candidate depends upon the marks obtained by a candidate in the IBPS Clerk Mains Exam. A candidate has to crack the sectional as well as the overall cutoff to crack the IBPS Clerk Exam. If a candidate clears the IBPS Clerk 2017, then he/she will be posted in the banks which he/she has selected as preferred banks at the time of filling the online application for IBPS Clerk Exam. 

Therefore, it is mandatory for a candidate to have a complete and detailed knowledge about the vacancies state-wise and bank-wise.

How to select your Bank for IBPS Clerk Preference Order?

  • Fluency in the official language of the state: IBPS Clerk Exam is a state-level exam. Hence, it is important for you to have a good command over the official language of the state. As per the latest IBPS Clerk Notification, you need to have proficiency in the official language of the state you are applying from for the Clerical post. 
For Example, Telugu Language States are Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. So, if you are applying for these states, you must be fluent in Telugu.


  • Affinity towards Home State: IBPS Clerk 2017 Exam is a state level exam. Which means, after clearing the last phase of the IBPS Clerk Exam you will be allotted your post in the bank as per your preference order that you have given at the time of filling the online application for IBPS Clerk 2017. If you wish to work near your hometown, you can give your preference order accordingly to have higher chances of getting posted in the district or town of your own state. Hence, give your preference to those banks which have the higher number of branches in your own state.
Example: If you choose Andhra Pradesh, after the selection process, you will be posted in any branch of the allotted bank in any district, city or town of Andhra Pradesh.
