India’s first homeopathy virology lab opened    
       
India’s first modern state of the art homeopathy lab was opened in Kolkatta on 13th Sept 2017. The lab will play an important role in developing new drugs and technologies in combating various viral diseases. The laboratory is the only one of its kind in India.





State govt. to provide 25% share in bullet train SPV           

Maharashtra State government on 12th Sept gave its approval to participate in the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR), also known as the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train. The SPV, with a paid-up capital of ₹500 crore, is being called the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited. Maharashtra and Gujarat will each have 25% equity in the SPV. The State government will contribute ₹5,000 crore of the 20,000 crores jointly proposed for the SPV by the Union Rail Ministry and the State Governments.

Union Government reorganizes Cabinet Committees   
     
After the recent Cabinet reshuffle, the Union Government has reorganized six Cabinet Committees. The new Defence Minister Ms. Nirmala Seetharaman finds a place in two prestigious committees – Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs and Cabinet Committee On Economic Affairs. 


Halimah Yacob becomes first female President of Singapore    
 
In Singapore, Halimah Yacob was declared as the President-elect on 13th Sept 2017 after her nomination papers were found to be in order. She will be Singapore's first female President and the first Malay head of state in 47 years. She was elected unopposed.




HDFC Bank becomes country’s second most valued firm

HDFC Bank surpassed Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to become the country’s second most valued firm in terms of market valuation, on 13th Sept 2017, during the afternoon trade, the market capitalisation (m-cap) of HDFC Bank stood at 4,73,530.72 crore, which was 797.4 crores more than TCS’ 4,72,733.32 crores valuation. Reliance Industries Ltd is the country’s most valued firm with a market cap of 5,33,818.72 crore followed by the HDFC Bank, TCS, ITC (3,35,993.75 crore) and HDFC Ltd (2,84,580.02 crore) in top five lists.

Pay U partners with IRCTC        

On 11th Sept 2017, payment gateway provider Pay U announced its tie up with the IRCTC for providing an option to Rail users to pay for their tickets using the IRCTC website. Now Pay U is available as an option under the Multiple Payment options of the IRCTC.



India produces the World’s Most expensive coffee 

In Karnataka, the world’s most expensive coffee is being produced. It costs about Rs 8000 in the Indian Market and about Rs 20000 in the International Market. The coffee is called Civet Coffee since it is made from the feces of a species of cat known as Civet Cat. The Cat eats the cherries and the beans as a whole and the coffee is made out of the feces of the cat. This is being made in Coorg, Karnataka.  The makers have named it as “Animane”.

The 74th Venice Film Festival Concludes   
   
The 74th Annual Venice Film Festival concluded on the 9th Sept 2017. The important winners were: Golden Lion – “The Shape of Water“ directed by Guillermo del Toro; Volvi Cup for the Best Actress – Charlotte Rampling in “Hannah”; Volvi Cup for the Best Actor – Kamel El Basha for “The Insult”.


Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust wins the Container Terminal Year Award for 2017
      
On 13th Sept 2017, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust Container Terminal won the Container Terminal Award of the year 2017. The award was given to JNPT for its innovative strategies to reduce congestion, smooth delivery of containers and renovation of infrastructure to ensure operations in all conditions.
