Example 1: Smart Trick To Solve Percentage Problems in IBPS Clerk Exam

Question: If A’s salary is 25% more than that of B, then by what percent is B’s salary less than that of A?

When you read this question, your mind automatically triggers the answer as 25%. Stop right there before you mark the option.

For example, Ram’s salary is 30,000 and his salary increases to 60,000 i.e. 100% increment. But suppose his salary decreases from 60,000 to 30.000 then we say that the salary has decreased 50%.

Smart Technique to solve Percentage Problems

Step 1: Convert the percentage into fraction

25% = 1/4th

Step 2: Increase the fraction

We need to increase the percentage since B’s salary is less than A. Now, you might wonder, by how much are you suppose to increase and how?

Increase the denominator by the value of the numerator.

1/ 4: 1/ (4 + 1) = 1/5

Step 3: Convert the fraction into percentage

1/5 * 100 = 20%

Solution: 20%
Now, your answer is 20%. In just 3 quick steps!

Example 2: Smart Trick To Solve Percentage Problems in IBPS Clerk Exam

25% = 1/4th

Step 2: Reduce the fraction

We need to reduce the percentage since B’s salary is less than A. Reduce the denominator by the value of the numerator.

1/ 4 : 1/ (4 -1) = 1/3

1/ 3 = 33.33%

Solution: 33.33%
