**1. Traditional method ****to solve aptitude questions in IBPS PO Exam**

In the traditional method, we substitute all the given details in conventional formulas and solve the aptitude questions in IBPS PO Exam.###
**An example of an aptitude question solved using the traditional method: **

**Question:**The Principle (P) amount is 20,000; Time period (t) is 2 year & the Rate of Interest (R) is 14%. Calculate the Compound Interest.

**Solution:**

**Formula:**

**CI= P {(1+R/100) t – 1}**

**To solve this aptitude question in IBPS PO, we substitute the given values in the formula to get the solution. However, you get the answer, but you end up spending around 2 minutes in the process. In IBPS PO, where you are given 30 seconds to solve a question, you just can’t spend 2 minutes on an aptitude question, when the clock is ticking.**

**2. Concept/Fundamental method ****to solve aptitude questions in IBPS PO Exam**

This is the second method, where we use the basic concepts and fundamentals of answering the questions without using the conventional formula. In the above question, we use the concept of effective percentage.

**An example of an aptitude question solved using the fundamental method: **

**Question:**The Principle (P) amount is 20,000; Time period (t) is 2 year & the Rate of Interest (R) is 14%. Calculate the Compound Interest.

**Solution:**

**Formula:**

**CI = A + B + AB/100**

In this case, A = 14 and B = 14

Therefore,

14+14+ [(14 x 14)/100]

28+ [196/100]

28+1.96 = 29.96% {Approx- 30%}

30% of 20,000 (P) = 6000

By using the fundamental method, we get the right answer in less than 30 seconds. This is a very useful method to solve some questions in the aptitude section. However, this method cannot be used for all the questions since it takes a long time to solve complex aptitude questions. Hence, use this method only for the simple aptitude questions.

**3. Substitution method ****to solve aptitude questions in IBPS PO Exam**

The substitution method is an effective method in solving various aptitude questions. Especially when you are supposed to find the missing part of a question, this method comes in handy. In substitution method, you are supposed to substitute all the options back in the question. This method is like reverse engineering where you substitute the answer back in the question one after the other and check which option satisfies the given aptitude questions.

**An example of an aptitude question solved using the substitution method:**

The Ages of A & B are in the ratio 7:4 after 5 years the ratio of the ages changes to 11:7. What is the age of A? A) 12 B) 14 C) 15 D) 28

**Solution:**

To find the correct answer we substitute the options back in the question.

**First Condition:**

**A: B = 7:4 (original ages)**

Therefore, A’s age has to be a multiple of 7.

**Option A**- 12: 12 is not a multiple of 7. Therefore, this option doesn't satisfy our condition.

**Option B**- 14: 14 is a multiple of 7. Therefore, it satisfies our condition.

**Option C**- 15: 15 is not a multiple of 7. Therefore, this option doesn't satisfy our condition.

**Option D**– 28: 28 is a multiple of 7. Therefore, it satisfies our condition.

**Second Condition:**

**After 5 years A's age should be a multiple of 11.**

A + 5 = Multiple of 11

Lets' take the options which satisfy our first condition.

**Option B**- 14: After 5 years A’s age would be

**14 + 5 = 19**

**Option D**– 28: After 5 years A’s age would be

**28 + 5 = 33**

33 is a multiple of 11. Therefore, 28 is the right answer.

**4. Elimination method to solve aptitude questions in IBPS PO Exam**

This is the fourth method to find the answer of an aptitude question. In this method, we don’t find the correct answer but instead, we find the wrong answers. We know that there are 4 options given, so we either find out the correct answer or find out the 3 wrong ones.

**An example of an aptitude question solved using the elimination method:**

**Question:**This is a simplification question.

?² + 79² = 172² – 88² – 8203. Find ?

A) 86 B) 89 C) 83 D) 93

In this question instead of finding out the squares of the given numbers and substituting them, we follow the elimination method by using the unit digit method.

**Solution:**

When a number ends with 9, the square ends with 1.

Thus, 79 square ends with 1.

Similarly, for the other options, we know that 172 square would end with the digit 2; 88 square ends with the digit 4 & 8203 ends with the digit 3.

By Simplification,

? + ..1= ..4 – ..4 - 3

The right-hand number would end with 7.

Since the right-hand side ends with 7, the left-hand side also ends with the digit 7.

As we already have a number that ends with 1. So the question mark square ending would be ending with 6 so the unit space of the number will be either 4 or 6.

So now we look at the option answers,

Option A - ends in 6, thus it’s possible.

Option B - ends in 9, eliminated.

Option C - ends in 3, eliminated.

Option D - ends in 3, eliminated.

Therefore, option A is the right option.
