In our previous post, we have discussed properties of parallelogram. Rectangle is no different than a parallelogram, it is a special type of parallelogram. Hence, before moving further, quickly review the properties of parallelogram that will help you in better understanding the properties of rectangle.

### What is a Rectangle?

A rectangle is a four sided closed figure. It is a special case of a parallelogram. All rectangles are parallelograms but all parallelograms are not rectangles. Any parallelogram where the sides are perpendicular and all the angles are 90 degrees, is called a rectangle. A rectangle is a parallelogram where all the interior angles equal to 90 degrees.

### Properties of Rectangle 1:

In a rectangle, all the opposite sides are equal and parallel to each other.
In the rectangle ABCD below,
AB = CD and BC = CD
AB // BC and BC // AB

### Properties of Rectangle 2:

In a rectangle, all the angles are equal to 90 degrees.
Angle A = Angle B = Angle C = Angle D = 90 degrees

### Properties of Rectangle 3:

In a rectangle, diagonals are equal.
AC = BC

### Properties of Rectangle 4:

In a rectangle, diagonals bisect each other.
AO = OC = BO = OC
