Only Needy Farmers To Benefit From State Loan Waiver: Devendra Fadnavis

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said that only needy farmers will benefit from the State loan waiver scheme. Stating this Mr. Fadnavis said that the State government with the help of a digital platform will ensure that only needy farmers benefit from its loan waiver scheme. He said that his government had formed a joint committee which would work out within a week conditions to ensure who should benefit from the waiver. He suggested that farmers who were financially better off and professionals and government employees also into farming will be left out of the scheme.

Bankers Meet Today In Mumbai To Decide On Large Defaulters

The leading bankers meeting planned in Mumbai on the 19th June are likely to finalise their next course of action on six of the 12 bad loan accounts for immediate referral to National Company Law Tribunal, NCLT, after the RBI named the largest defaulters to face bankruptcy proceedings. Quoting a banker PTI said, the first set of six troubled accounts, worth more than Rupees 1.6 Lakh Crores, are Bhushan Steel responsible for 44,478 Crore Rupees Non-Performing Asset, NPA, of banks, Bhusan Power and Steel for 37,248 Crore Rupees, Essar Steel has a loan of 37,284 Crore Rupees which has not been returned yet, Alok Industries' 22,075 Crore Rupees debt, Amtek Auto loan of 14,074 Crore and Monnet Ispat's 12,115 Crore Rupees debt have been declared as bad loan.

GST Council Gives Relaxation Of 2 Months For Filing Tax Returns; Sets Tax Rates For Lotteries And Hotel Rooms

The GST Council today relaxed return filing rules for businesses for the first two months of the rollout of the new indirect tax regime. Briefing media at the meeting of the Council in New Delhi, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, to obviate any lack of preparedness, a slight relaxation of time for two months has been given and from September, strict adherence to time will go on. The return for the month of July will have to be filed ordinarily by 10th of August. In any case to obviate any greivance or any lack of preparedness, a slight relaxation of time for the first two months that is return for the month of July and August was discussed and from September strict adherence to the time will go on and that those who are not ready after relaxation will have more than two to two half months to get ready.

Finmin Asks PSBs To Explore Acquisition Of Smaller Banks

The Finance Ministry has asked four large PSU lenders to explore opportunities for acquisition of small and mid-sized banks with a goal to create global sized lenders, sources said. One of the possibilities is that large public sector banks (PSBs) like Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank and Bank of India could try looking for potential candidates for acquisition, they said. So, informally, the finance ministry has sounded them that they should study the possibility for mergers and acquisitions so as to acquire scale and size of State Bank of India (SBI), the sources added.

Australia Announces Online Visa Applications For Indians From July 1

The Australian Government has announced that Indian nationals can apply for a visitor visa online starting from July 1st, 2017. Australia's Assistant Minister for Immigration and Border Protection, Alex Hawke, said the online application option would make applying for the country's visitor visas easier and enhance the experience for Indians. Online lodgement for visitor visa applications is a significant enhancement that will benefit Indian applicants seeking to visit Australia as tourists or business visitors, or those wanting to reconnect with family and friends," Hawke said.

K Srikanth Lifts Indonesia Open

India's K Srikanth has lifted the Indonesia Open Super Series badminton title by defeating Japanese qualifier Kazumasa Sakai in straight games 21-11, 21-19 in the Men's Singles final at Jakarta today. For World No.22 Srikanth, it is his third Super Series title. He had earlier won the 2014 China Open and 2015 India Open. President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Kidambi Srikanth, on winning Indonesia Open Super Series tournament. Mr. Mukherjee in a tweet said heartiest congratulations to Srikanth on winning the premier title. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, India is extremely delighted on his victory. 

Pakistan Lift Their Maiden Champions Trophy In Cricket Beating India In Final

Pakistan has won its maiden Champions Trophy cricket title by defeating defending champions India by a huge margin of 180 runs in the final in London today. Set to score 339 runs for a win, India folded up for 158 in 30.3 overs. Earlier, put in to bat, Pakistan put on board 338 for 4 in the stipulated 50 overs. Opener Fakhar Zaman hit his maiden ODI hundred by making a fine 114. The other notable scorers were Azhar Ali (59), Mohammed Hafeez (57) and Babar Azam (46). For Pakistan, Mohammed Amir and Hassan Ali were the main wicket-takers claiming three wickets each. 

No ICC World T20 In 2018, Next Edition In 2020

The World Twenty20 Championship's seventh edition next year is all set to be scrapped and pushed to 2020. ICC source told PTI that the primary reason for the postponement is there are too many bilateral series happening between member nations. Hence, it is not possible to schedule the tournament in 2018. However, the venue is yet to be decided.

India Beat Pakistan 7-1 In Hockey World League Semifinal

India recorded a brilliant 7-1 win over Pakistan in the ongoing Hockey World League Semifinal competition in London today. In the Group B match, Akashdeep Singh, Harmanpreet Singh and Talwinder Singh scored two goals each. Pardeep Mor accounted for the other goal. Earlier, India had blanked Canada 3-0 and Scotland 4-1. India now maintains its top spot in the group while Pakistan is still in sixth position with no points.
