It takes passion and perseverance to educate the future generations of India. This is easier said than done. While teaching may seem to be a very lucrative and easy career path, in the real-time scenario becoming a good teacher isn’t all that easy. Even a primary school teacher needs to have a good educational background. In India, at present, there are several interesting courses to help one become a primary school teacher.
Educational background needed for primary school teachersThe minimum qualification to become a primary school teacher is a graduate with a nursery training certificate/diploma or degree. The candidate should be a graduate or a post graduate with at least 55 per cent marks in aggregate and hold either a diploma or degree in education or teaching i.e., Diploma in Teachers Education (D.Ted). Further, a candidate should have studied at least one of the teaching subjects during graduation. Also, candidates who are graduates in home science can be selected for primary school teachers’ post.
However, these days, normally candidates who have a Bachelors in Education (B. Ed) are preferred for primary school teachers’ post. But merely having a B. Ed degree is also not considered enough and more is expected of them.
CTET certification: The gold standard for a primary school teacherWell, a B. Ed might land you up in a regular primary school teaching job but Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) can help you get into a Government school with a respectable pay package. While B. Ed is an undergraduate/college degree, CTET Exam is a Central Eligibility Test conducted by the Government of India. It has been put into place to ensure that teachers in India are qualified enough to teach, even at the primary level.
Further, Central Teacher Eligibility Test score is not only accepted by Government schools like Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodayas and State Government schools but also by the new-age private schools.
