Important Dates as per SBI PO Notification 2016

Before getting into the changes made to the SBI PO 2016 selection process introduced this year, all the candidates need to make a note of the below mentioned important dates of the exam:
  • Online Registration: May 4-24, 2016
  • Preliminary Exam: July 2, 3, 9 and 10, 2016
  • Main Exam: July 31, 2016
  • Final results: September 30, 2016
Now coming to the selection process, it consists of 3 phases:
  • Phase I: Preliminary Examination,
  • Phase II: Main Examination,
  • Phase III: Group Discussion and Personal Interview
Major changes have been introduced in Phase 2.

6 key changes in SBI PO 2016 selection process are as under:

a.  Separate timings introduced for all the four sections in the objective test of the main examination: The biggest change in the SBI PO recruitment process this year is the newly introduced sectional time-limit for each section of the main examination. Till previous year, candidates were give a composite time of 2 hours to attempt all the 200 questions across different sections, which means one could decide one's own time allocation for each section. But with the new format, candidates will have a fixed time for each section in the Main examination. The time-limit for each section is given in the table below.

S.No.
Name of the Test
Duration(Minutes)

3
General awareness about Economy / Banking

4

Total
3 Hours

b. The descriptive test of the main examination to be held online: Earlier, candidates gave the exam with pen and paper. However, this has changed from this year on.

c.  There will now be different number of questions for each section of the Main Examination. Till last year, there used to be 50 questions in each section of the Main Exam, but as per the new notification, the number of questions per section is not constant and the weightage of each section is different. The details of number of questions and marks per section is given in the table below:

d. The total time duration for Objective test of the Main Examination has been increased to 3 hours from the usual 2 hours. This year, there will be only 155 questions to be answered in 3 hours unlike 200 questions in 2 hours of the previous SBI PO Exams. Therefore, candidates should be prepared to expect higher difficulty questions due to the increase in the total alloted time and reduction in the number of questions.

e. Evaluation of the the descriptive test of the main examination: It is decided that Descriptive Test papers of only those candidates will be evaluated who score qualifying marks in the Objective Test.

f. The duration of the descriptive test in the main examination to be reduced to half an hour: Earlier, one hour was assigned to this test which is now reduced to half an hour only.

Thus, with these changes, SBI PO 2016 selection process has become all the more tricky. The objective of these changes is to ensure only the most deserving candidates get selected to the Bank. Hence, candidates need to work extra hard and adopt smart preparation strategies.
